Syed Ali Shah Geelani, chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), has been placed under house arrest one day ahead of his meeting with Ram Jethmalani’s Kashmir Committee.
Geelani is being placed under house arrest to prevent him from carrying forward his awareness campaign regarding the issue of arrested persons. Jethmalani committee is scheduled to meet Hurriyat (G) chairman at 3 PM immediately after its arrival from New Delhi. Talking to Kashmir Times, Geelani said he would continue to stick to his stand to hold talks with non governmental delegations and not with government appointed groups. «We still stand by our point. We will not hold talks with government appointed delegations. We will engage in talks with any non governmental delegations who wishes to talk to us», said Geelani.
Hurriyat (G) chairman stated talking to government appointed groups is useless as they carry forward government agenda. «We had forwarded our four points to Indian government but those were not accepted. It is no use talking to them», he said.
He said his party is ready to talk to any non governmental delegation.
«We want to tell them our view point. Through non governmental delegations we want to tell the people of India what the reality is in Kashmir. The picture of Kashmir has been presented in a wrong manner which we want to clear», said Geelani.
Kashmir Committee led by Ram Jethmalani would begin their mission Kashmir-II from tomorrow, with the panel arriving here for holding dialogue with different sections of the society including separatists. The team will be here on four day visit. The committee was revived last month. Geelani and chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq will be holding talk with the committee.
